Dear Friends Who Love Food,
Was it Shakespeare who said, "That which we call champagne, by any other name would taste as sweet?" We don't know, the only thing we read is menus, but it sounds about right. Champagne, Prosecco, Cava, Sparkling Wine—call it what you will, but regardless of moniker, we at TableTalkPortland are entranced by this drink and its fun 'n festive effervescence. We have even on a few occasions been accused of a perhaps slightly obsessive fascination with the "sparkly," as our British friend Sian calls it. True, Jen keeps her precious Riedel Restaurant Series champagne flute collection in a fireproof safe under her bed and has mentioned someday tattooing tiny bubbles up her spine as a personal tribute to her favorite beverage, and Michelle uses cases of Bele Casel Prosecco di Valdobbiadene as dining room seating and wakes Jen up every Saturday morning at 10 am with a picture text of her enormous Jace Gace mimosa, but who doesn't?
That said, it should come as no surprise that we are fans of Cava restaurant on SE Foster (www.cavapdx.com), which is where we plan to hoop it up at next week's "Table For Twelve at Cava: The 'Who Wants to Tattoo Tiny Bubbles Up Their Back After Dinner?!' Edition." It's not only the promise of sparkly prompting our trek to Cava, though...this cozy little gastropub also boasts a mouth-watering Mediterranean tapas-style menu, offering everything from a divinely rich mushroom bruschetta to the zesty Chimayo chile rubbed pulled pork sandwich to the addictive duck cassoulet (Michelle's favorite--don't even get her started...seriously). Hope you can join us!
Details, Details
Where: Cava, 5339 SE Foster Rd (www.cavapdx.com)
When: Wednesday, April 23, 7 pm...although we'll personally be at the bar a little earlier for a bottle of pre-dinner cava
Why: Because Michelle is in love with Cava's duck cassoulet and thinks you should be too. And Jen's in love with Cava being named Cava.
See You at the Table,
Jen & Michelle

We misspelled "Mediterranean" in our invite. We are mortified. We have no excuse...except that our copyediting monkey was off sick.
